Don’t apologize Gov Bob
for the embarrassment you and your family have caused Virginia.
Let’s not mince words.
You are your family are
the embarrassment, especially you.
Just say it. Don’t couch
your statement in convoluted language.
“I am deeply sorry for the
embarrassment certain members of my family and I brought upon my beloved
Virginia and her citizens,” the governor’s statement said. “I want you to know
that I broke no laws and that I am committed to regaining your sacred trust and
confidence. I hope today’s action is a step toward that end.”
Worse.
You are an embarrassment
to your political party, the Republicans.
You are an embarrassment
to your own code of morals.
You are an embarrassment
to the people who believed in you.
You are an embarrassment
to the people who taught you, who mentored you and who guided you throughout
life.
Whether you broke the law
or not is for the Justice Department to decide.
You, readers can (and
will) reach your own conclusions about McDonnell’s indiscretion.
But it’s not only you. Your family benefited.
But it’s not only you. Your family benefited.
Is this what you teach
your children?
Accept gifts from wealthy,
influential donors with no questions asked?
Is this how you raised
them?
To not question the
ethical and moral consequences of your decisions?
You should pay the price.
Step down.
Do the right thing.
You are not just a lame
duck. You are crippled. Wherever you go, people will wonder if you really broke
the law or not.
You lost our trust.
You lost our confidence.
It’s bad enough to accept
loans from nutritional products maker Star Scientific, which is feuding with
the state over back taxes and is under investigation by the Securities and
Exchange Commission.
But you took advantage of
a relationship to which many of us don’t have access.
Did you pay interest on
the $214, 000 in loans?
Did you pay a late fee?
Did you sign a contract?
Did you have to put up
collateral?
We, us, the citizens are
subject to those rules.
Apparently, you’re not.
Following your apology,
you fly to Afghanistan, a well-kept secret.
First, who’s paying for
your flight from the heat?
Second, you’re running
away governor.
Stand up and be a man.
On cue, Republican leaders
in the Virginia legislature circled the wagons, saying McDonnell is
“a man of character, integrity and good will.”
Predictably, the Democrats seized this moment to push their own
agenda.
Gubernatorial nominee
Terry McAuliffe and some of his fellow Democrats favor an outright ban on gifts
worth more than $100 to elected officials and their families, a Virginian-Pilot
article said.
Both sides have vowed to
reform Virginia’s “permissive gift laws and vowed to take action in the 2014
General Assembly session.”
Don’t count on it. They’ll
introduce bills, debate the bills, reach a compromise (maybe) and water down
the legislation.
As for the governor.
You are a disappointment.
